Pekiti-Tirsia Kali

Filipino martial- and motion art

In contrast to other traditional martial arts which are based on learning one technique after the other, Pekiti-Tirsia Kali starts with basic footwork and motion patterns which build the foundation of the system. This leads to the generation of automatisms and “muscle memory. The Training starts with sticks and knives and the same principles and motion patterns that build the foundation of the weapon-training are applied to “body weapons” like elbows, knees and hands. The system also includes joint locks and take-downs which enable full control over the opponent. The aim is to train the body to perfection.

By training with weapons like sticks and knives the utilization of everyday items (e.g. umbrella, ball point pen, mobile phone, CD etc.) for efficient self-defence is learned.

A fascinating experience

The recurrent motions build brain and nerve cell connections. It is fascinating to experience the body working and responding (reacting). Pekiti-Tirsia Kali is a centuries-old martial art which was used in multiple warlike conflicts. Attack and defence patterns are completely identical. It is not only a brilliant and very effective system, but also a great challenge from a sportive perspective. For instance, coordination, especially the left-right coordination, is trained.

Particularly remarkable is the exceptional development of striking force through the training.

Grand Tuhon Leo T. Gaje Jr. is the sole heir and present keeper of the Pekiti-Tirsia Kali system, which is like most Filipino martial arts a family system.

Our group exists since January 2010. We are associated with the Pekiti-Tirsia Kali Global Organization (PTKGO) in cooperation with the Pekiti-Tirsia Kali Tactical Association (PTTA). Thereby we keep close contact to U.S. instructors Tim Waid and Jared Wihongi – instructors on an international level.
